Winter is Here

by, Kim Spiece

It's hard to believe that it is December already...How did Autumn go so fast?  The Holidays are upon us; many people shopping and baking, getting ready for parties, dinners, guests arriving for visits, and of course decorating. For many it is the favorite time of the year with the cooler weather and the snow that comes with Winter.
We at Pollock (and Ragtops) advocate driving your car as often as possible. There are enough good weather days that you can get your car out at least once a month during the winter. Putting your car 'away' only allows problems to occur when you’re not looking. It's well known that when automobiles sit idle is when things go bad; seals and gaskets dry out, gas gets foul and batteries go dead. Then there’s the bugs, mice and other rodents that will take up residence in your car and eat the wiring, burrow into the upholstery and stuff the tail pipe with nuts and debris while you're not looking.
If you feel that storage is the best option for you and your car, here are some good articles from Hagerty Insurance and Timeless Rides giving pertinent information for just that. Give the car a good wash and wax before putting a car cover on because, if it's dirty prior to that, it could cause unwanted scratches.  Detail the interior and treat leather seats. Fill the fuel tank and add some fuel stabilizer and be sure to run the car to make sure the stabilizer gets through the carburetor, fuel rails, injectors, etc. Change the oil and filter before putting it away, also. To try to prevent the rodent problems the writers also suggest these things when in storage:  place baking soda packets in the interior and trunk areas,  place mothballs in the tailpipe and around the outside of the car to keep little vermin out, place the vehicle on jack stands to help avoid tire flat spots and close all the windows.
These are all great tips to help keep problems away in the winter months when being stored. To read the full articles:

Vargo Dragway

November 2, 2019
By: Kim Spiece

The first Saturday in November, for many local enthusiasts, is the tradition of attending Vargo Dragway Annual Car Show and this year was no different although a bit on the chilly side. There were well over 420 vehicles in attendance this year and many vendors displaying their automotive items to sell or trade in the flea market area. All monies raised help support the local Troop 610 Boy Scouts and Bedminster Regional Land Conservancy. In year's past, it was mostly street rods, hot rods, race cars, and muscle cars but this year also showcased classic, antique, and specialty vehicles. Here are a few photos of some of the cars we see, then we post albums to share with others on Facebook. You are welcome to check them out! Enjoy!!

Red Horse Motoring Club

November 21, 2019
By: Kim Spiece

I was graciously invited to attend an exclusive tour of the Club facility with complimentary appetizers and drinks. There was an assortment of pasta and salads, cheese and crackers, fruits and breads. It all was very tasty. I've been wanting to get down to the Club on 3rd Street in Pottstown Pa to see what they had. Previously I couldn't make their tours due to car show conflicts so I took advantage of the time available.

I had an opportunity to speak with the owner, Chuck Harders and his lovely wife, who are very friendly and automotive oriented. Some of the cars in the facility belong to Chuck but many others are members of the club.  There is a social hall upstairs with a bar and lounge for their members to enjoy.  They also rent out space for private events, client meetings and entertainment. It is a private club that you can hang out with fellow car enthusiasts, store your vehicle or entertain friends. It was great to finally get down there to see what all the hubbub was about and it was definitely worth it.

Pollock Auto Restoration Open House

November 24, 2019
By: Bob Broeze

Our annual fall open house and shop tour was held on Sunday, November 24th.  The weather was rainy but that did not discourage folks from coming out to see our two shops.
Festivities started at 9 am our sister shop, Ragtops & Roadsters, in Perkasie with coffee, scones and a tour of the Ragtops shop and the restoration projects that are underway.  The group left Ragtops at 10 am and navigated the scenic Bucks and Montgomery county rural roads to our shop in Pottstown where a sizeable group had already assembled. Here, everyone had the opportunity to tour the Pollock shop, meet and chat with our staff, talk “cars” and enjoy lunch.
Many impressive vehicles were on display including:  a 1941 Cadillac Convertible Coupe (just returned from a road tour with the Cadillac-Lasalle Club), a 1963 Studebaker Avanti R-1, a 1961 Mercedes 190SL, a 1958 Jaguar XK140, a 1951 Muntz Jet, a recently restored 1912 Model T Torpedo, a 1931 Model AA Dump Truck (AACA National First Prize winner in 1982), a 1952 Chevy 3100 Resto-Mod Pick-Up Truck that is nearing completion, a 1957 Dual Ghia, two Jaguar E-Types, a 1951 pristine Packard Patrician 400 Ultramatic Sedan with 17,740 miles, recently out of storage after many years, 1951 Chrysler Windsor barn find that we are making road ready again, 1935 Hudson Terraplane that we restored several years ago and is back for routine maintenance, 1961 Lotus Elite and many more!
Lunch provided a time to mingle with each other and with our staff and time to talk “cars” with friends.   Lunch was provided to all and included meatball subs, sausage and pepper, mac and cheese, sandwiches and sumptuous pastries, deserts and snacks.
During the event, a metal-working demonstration was provided by Dorian, our specialist in metal work.  He demonstrated how metal can be moved and shaped using machines such as the English Wheel and he made these difficult tasks look easy.  In addition, Pollock provided a room to accommodate a meeting of the board of the Delaware Valley Region of the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA) that was held in the morning.
We had several items for sale including a complete A/C system for a Jaguar E-Type, radiators for Series II and III E-types, NOS side curtains for a TR-3, seats and a pair of NOS fenders and miscellaneous NOS parts for a ’93 Toyota Camry wagon and others.
In all, the open house was very successful with more than 250 attending and we look forward to seeing you again at our upcoming Open House events in 2020!  We at Pollock and Ragtops thank all of you for attending and wish you a peaceful and enjoyable holiday season and a happy and prosperous New Year!

Annual Turkey Run Daytona FL

November 28-30, 2019

by: Kim Spiece

On a beautiful week in November in Daytona Beach, Florida over Thanksgiving holiday, the Turkey Run is held at Daytona Speedway. It was warm and sunny all week with temps hovering in the high 70's. First full week in a long time, no rain forecast for the car show. Each year the show is presented by the Daytona Beach Street Rods.  There were over 1400 vehicles for sale in the Car Corral, about 5000 actual Show cars, and over 800 vendors displaying  automotive goods, parts, accessories, clothing, gifts, and antiques. You can see an assortment of vehicles from classic, antique, street rods, muscle cars, exotics, foreign, to custom. There wasn't enough time to walk around and see everything, but here are some photos of the cars for your enjoyment.  There were people from all over the United States and abroad including Massachusetts, New York, Tennessee, Oregon, California, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, England, Norway, Belgium, and Canada.  If you've never attended this event, it is a must on your "Bucket List". You won't regret it.
There were so many cool cars, it was hard to take just a few pictures and any of you who know me, I tend to take too many photos...
I swear Officer, it wasn't me...  hahaha    The sun shining and warm temps tend to make you get a little excitable !!
What the heck are they pictured below?  Sorry......... Some of the strangest things I've seen this year, funny creative, cool!!

I think the other two below could really use our help at Pollock, don't you think?  I left a business card with each of them.....hehehehe

Hope you enjoyed what I've chosen to delight you this issue!
