Sum Sum Summertime

by, Kim Spiece

As we finish out the month of May and head into June, many of us have graduations and summer vacations to plan for. While our graduates are pondering life after high school; whether to further their education at college, join the military or work full time, there are many exciting decisions they have to make. It can be quite challenging and apprehensive yet exciting at the same time, so much ahead of them. Many of us plan months in advance for a summer vacation with our families going to far off destinations like Greece or Spain or simply heading down to the beach.
Then there are us, car enthusiasts who are looking forward to warm sunny days to take out our beautiful babies and drive like they want to be driven, tired of being locked up in a garage. They want to rev their motors and enjoy the sunny weather like the rest of us, hoping for a rain-free weekend. Yes, Spring surely has started like last year and we have had numerous weekends filled with rainy, stormy days. There are many car shows and cruise-ins we can attend throughout the summer and even into Autumn.  Don't be afraid to go out, as my uncle used to tell me, "Remember, when it rains, it's just giving your car a bath and you don't have to pay for the water".   He sure is a funny guy.  So drive, go on a tour, attend a show or cruise-in, have fun, enjoy your classic car.  Tomorrow is never promised, live life to the fullest each and every day. God Bless and be safe out there.

11th Annual American Muscle Car Show  Maple Grove

June 15th, 2019

by: Kim Spiece

Typically this show was always held in mid August at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, PA but due to the sweltering heat of late summer they chose to move it to mid-June. This is its 2nd year at this date change and is listed as one of the world's largest Muscle Car shows.  Each year they raise funds to benefit the Make A Wish Foundation and that draws in nearly 10,000 spectators with over 3,000 vehicles. There are surprise special guests, a vendor area, and all day exhibition drag races. Come out and help raise funds for  critically ill children and celebrate America's favorite muscle cars.

AACA Eastern Spring National Pasipanny NJ

June 26-29th, 2019

by: Kim Spiece

This year the New Jersey Region will host the AACA Eastern Spring National Meet at the Hilton in Pasippany NJ. There will be activities going on throughout the 4-day event including some 'early bird' tours of the Ford Mansion and  Jockey Hollow National Historic Park. Other tours include the Mahan Collection, Herb Singe's Collection, Great Falls of Paterson, and the Frelinghuysen Arboretum.  Interesting little history tidbit: Paterson was established as the first planned industrial city in America centered around the water falls of the Passaic River which is listed as the second largest in the United States.

1912 Auburn

by: Ross Belovich, Shop Foreman

Above, we are continuing the process of recreating the hoods for a 1912 Auburn. The panels have been fitted and now are in paint. It requires a lot of tedious measuring and fitting, but it won't be long before these will be ready to install.

29th Annual Cruisin' Ocean City

May 16-19th, 2019
By: Kim Spiece

As most of you know, or who have read the article in last month's newsletter, Ocean City has been one of my favorite shows to attend throughout the year.  This year was dry for the most part unlike last year's torrential downpours all weekend. It was a beautiful sunny and warm weekend filled with a lot of activities at the Inlet, the Convention Center and on the Boardwalk.  The crowds were bigger than usual and maybe Catherine Bach from the famed "Dukes of Hazzard" television series was part of the reason. She even brought along one of the General Lee's for display. What more could you ask for? A beautiful sunny warm weekend filled with cars, celebrities and can't forget about the beach !

Union Lodge Antique & Classic Car Show

May 25th, 2019
By: Kim Spiece

It was a pleasure to be invited to attend this local show over Memorial Day weekend. The Masons asked me if I would come to their show as many of them have seen me at other shows and I said, "of course, I'd be delighted." This is one of their big fundraisers throughout the year which they donate the proceeds to several charities within the community including the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Children's Learning Center for Dyslexia, the PA Masonic Youth Foundation and various Veterans' Organizations. It was a solemn reminder of what Memorial Day Weekend is all about, all those who fought to keep our freedom in this country. A big Thank You to all the Veterans out there.

36th Annual Chester County Antique Car Club & Valley Forge Mustang Club at Kimberton Fairgrounds Car Show

May 26th, 2019
By: Kim Spiece

Another beautiful day on tap for a car show Memorial Day weekend, this time at Kimberton Fairgrounds in Phoenixville.  A lot of beautiful, preserved automobiles with too many to pick from. Here are some pictures I thought you would enjoy if you didn't get a chance to go there yourself. It is held each year Sunday of Memorial Day weekend with the Chester County Antique Car Club and the Valley Forge Mustang Club.  Hopefully you enjoy the wide variety of cars that were on display as I did.  Both clubs raise funds to benefit various charitable organizations.

Carlisle Ford Nationals

May 31st -June 2nd, 2019
By: Kim Spiece

The Carlisle Ford Nationals recently seemed as though it was overtaken by America's pony cars, the Mustangs, and for good reason. This year the event celebrated the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Mach 1. The theme this year for all the Carlisle shows is the Summer of '69 where many great models of all types of cars came out that summer. That is especially so with the Mustang Mach I series and many excellent examples of this amazing car were on display in T building on the fairgrounds. There was also a special show class area on the field outside as well, as you can see by my photos of the event.  It was nice sunny weather which I enjoyed since so many previous weekends recently have been rainy again as last year.
After I completed my tour of T building, I wandered into the next building Y to take a gander at what they had in there. And I find they had some "other" special models of vehicles on display as well including as pictured, a 1961 Ford Country Squire and a 1959 English Ford Anglia.

Below were some photos taken from the car corral which seemed to have some fantastic deals going as I saw many with "sold" written on them.  Personally, I'll take the 1951 Ford F1 series Truck; love the look of the front end of this pickup, surprisingly still with the stock flathead V8 and 3-on-the-tree; maybe someday !!

Did You Know?

by: Kim Spiece

In staying with the Summer of 69 theme,  do you remember what happened that year?
Some of the major events that took place was Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin, landing on the Moon in the Apollo 11 mission, the Pontiac Trans AM  is introduced along with the Ford Mustang Mach I series, and Woodstock attracts more than 500,000 fans to watch 35 live rock n' roll performers including Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. And, the beginning of that year, I was born.
