Simeone Spirit of Competition Honoring David Hobbs

November 18, 6 PM

We recommend this annual event as it's always a special night at the Simeone Foundation Museum.
Located in Philadelphia, PA, the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum is one of the world’s greatest collections of racing sports cars. Through the theme, “The Spirit of Competition”, the museum is celebrating the history and evolution of these magnificent machines. Assembled over 50 years by Dr. Frederick Simeone, the Museum contains over 65 historically significant cars including Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Bugatti, Mercedes, Jaguar, Bentley, Porsche, Aston Martin, Corvette, Ford and more.

This year's honoree, David Hobbs achieved five top-ten finishes in a six-race career spread over eight seasons, but it was away from Formula One that he achieved his greatest successes. An impressive racing CV included winning the US Formula 5000 championship in 1971 and the Trans-Am Series title in 1983, 20 appearances in the Le Mans 24 hour race as well as outings in the Indianapolis 500. In latter stages of his career, he began to commentate on TV and he combined this with running a car dealership in the Wisconsin. He was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2009.

The event begins at 6:00 pm and will consist of a dinner with open bar, an award presentation by Dr. Frederick Simeone, plus music by the Gin Canaries.

AACA National Fall Meet

October 7-10th

The Eastern Division AACA National Fall Meet takes place each year during the 1st full week in October. The Hershey Region began hosting the show in 1955 and has done so each year since then. The meet is located in beautiful Hershey, PA on the grounds and parking lots surrounding Hersheypark and The Giant Center. Hershey is considered one of the largest antique automobile shows and flea markets in the United States.
From the dawn of motoring to the "new antiques" yes that's 1990!, Hershey has it all! The level of detail on the delivery trucks was impressive. Some kids get a free classic ride. The parade of 1600 cars coming into the show is an event in itself. Someone spotted Al and Robin on their way to getting a Senior Nation Award!

St Michaels Concours

September 25-27th

On September 25th we loaded three cars into trailers that were invited to be shown at the St. Michael's Concours d' Elegance. Now in its ninth year, this Concours started out just featuring rare pre-war grand classics with European coachwork, wood bodied cars, and classic wooden speed boats. Significant sports and racing cars up to 1965 came along with fashion show were added about five years ago. The Concours has been at its new location, the Hyatt Hotel located on waterfront property in Cambridge MD for three years now and it's a very nice venue with everything you might want or need.

Saturday under threatening skies about a third of the show cars went on a tour up to St Michael's to tour a private estate and lunch. We elected to not take the Italia 2000 out of the trailer and met our group for a nice luncheon.

With plenty of room on the greens, about 45 Concours show cars took the field early on Saturday morning to what turned out to be a fabulous day! The spectator attendance was low due to poor weather predictions however mid morning the sun came out and the cars glistened!
We fielded the 1960 Triumph Italia 2000 that won yet another First in Class! Congrats to Robin and Al Anspaugh as this has been a great year for their most recent restoration. We also brought two very rare "only survivors" from Pollock Auto Restoration, the 1922 Secqueville-Hoyau sporting it's new top, and the 1910 Pickard, both of which won First in Class. Congrats to both owners Teri and Alex Giacobetti and Denise and Dave Pickard for their wins!

Three cars this Concours and three wins. It was a very good weekend indeed!

100 Motorcars of Radnor

September 11th –13th

On Sunday, Sept 13th, the ninetieth annual 100 Motorcars of Radnor Hunt Concours d' Elegance featured the classic Packards, a celebration of Alfa Romeo's 100th anniversary, with a wide array of postwar and several well known pre-war examples.
The three-day event included a Friday Night BBQ, a rally on Saturday and an evening banquet dinner. Show cars roll onto the field early to fill the terraces with sports cars and the lawn with classics and this year' feature an impressive selection of Packards. The weather was perfect, music good, and attendance was larger than I have ever seen. Many dressed in period apparel.

We had the pleasure of showing the Triumph Italia Vignale #122 yet again, and Al and Robin won a Radnor Award! Congrats!

Many best-of-the-best were there, but one classic that caught my eye with some very creative paintwork that was this was this 1932 Ruxton Model C-4. Owners Scott and Celesta Boses of La Canada, CA also won Best Dressed Vintage.

Good changes were made this year included an ever expanding Motorsports Park which is becoming a show in itself. The support from the local car community was strong and I have never seen so many quality vendors at a Concours Event.

The gang from the Boyertown Museum won a First in Class with their "new" SGV.
A nice addition this year was the new reviewing stand, where Radnor Judges awarded two Best of Show winners this year, one went to a 1934 Pierce-Arrow 840A Convertible Sedan LeBaron owned by Charles Gillett; the other was awarded to Gordon Barrett and his 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Spider Touring. There was much to see this year, but by the end of the day, I was already looking forward to celebrating the 20th Annual 100 Motorcars of Randor, hopefully to include the return of all twenty winners from past years.
